Creating a beautiful planet by inspiring, mentoring, and training young people to lead sustainability projects in their communities.

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to create a beautiful planet by inspiring, mentoring, and training young people to lead sustainability projects in their communities. We envision a world where there is no waste, where people are happy to live on our planet, and where local communities take responsibility for their public spaces.

We begin with education. By working with young people and their communities to plan and implement sustainability projects, new ideas about making a difference in this field will emerge. These young leaders will gain hands-on experience and a new sense of ownership over the state of their communities and our planet at large.

From these new ideas and projects, new communal engagement opportunities and business ideas will appear. From these new ideas and opportunities, communal activism and engagement will grow.

Through this heightened engagement and activism, laws that make sustainable practices scalable will be created in these communities. These laws will be upheld by the communities they affect, because they were created by the local communities involved, and serve their respective interests.

Wasteless is here to make that possible.

Willy's Story

Willy's Story
In 2017 I was hiking in the Catskill Mountains and started picking up trash. I trained my eyes to find it in hard-to-see spots on and off the trail, and collected almost every piece I saw that I could reach without endangering my safety.

I felt a deep sense of purpose and connection with the trails when I was doing that. When I would hike the same trail I had cleaned again, I knew I had made a difference. At the start, this mission was my little secret.

I counted the trash, took pictures of it, wrote poems about it, and asked myself how I could make a difference. I climbed all the peaks in the Catskills and became a Catskill 35er, and started sharing the trail cleaning work I was doing with other people I hiked with. A few cleanup hikes later, I met people at the Catskill 3500 Club dinner who recognized me for my cleanup work.

I moved back to New York City in August of 2017, and asked myself how I could make a difference with how we think about waste and dispose of it in our world. What would be possible if communities shifted the way they generated and treated waste? What if there was no waste in our world anymore?

In April of 2018 I went into an office seeking an environmental internship. I left said office with the opportunity to create a non-profit, which is now Wasteless. In January of 2019 we incorporated.

A Socially (Very) Distant Clean-Up

Wasteless is creating a beautiful planet by giving young people the physical tools, skills, and mentorship to lead sustainability projects in their communities. Please join us for a virtual, socially distancing friendly clean-up as we build our community. You can participate from anywhere on the planet. Enjoy the great outdoors and pick up trash in your communities, with a growing network of people, in a responsible, safe and socially distant way. Start in your backyard, your local park, mountain peak, beachfront, or street corner. Bring your gloves, hand sanitizer, trash picker(s) and a can-do attitude. Show us what you picked up, how you found your trash, and the difference you made! Add the hashtag #wearewasteless and post to our Instagram, @wasteless_inc, to our Facebook page.
